Nice, easy reading. No real surprises. The one thing that annoyed me about this book is that one of the characters is pregnant and delivers her baby but at no time is the father mentioned. Perhaps a line explaining the pregnancy would be helpful. I found myself wondering the entire novel, if that mystery would be solved. Alas, it wasn't.Product details

The Pumpkin Killer A Bakery Detectives Cozy Mystery edition by Stacey Alabaster Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
When Rachel & Pippa are around murders just seem to find them. This book has several new & nice things beginning for Rachel & Pippa both. Pippa's daughter finally makes her way into the world and almost on Pippa's favorite holiday.
Stacey Alabaster is right back on track with this one. So many exciting things going on that I couldn't put this book down. Pippa is still as weird as she's supposed to be, I love her. Rachel finally wants to get rid of her horrible new employee, but didn't. Way to busy trying to solve another mystery. And then there is Kenneth, did he do it or was it the neighbor or a serial killer. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book. I loved this one.
With this being the first book I read, in what I assume is a series, I was disappointed that the author did not fill me in on the characters. Why was Pippa alone? Where was the baby's father? What was the relationship with the main characters and why were they like that? I needed a little background. Why didn't people go to the police? What was Rachel's background with the policeman? Why didn't they share what they knew? Why would Rachel go alone to a suspect's home? When the second killing didn't happen why wasn't it mentioned? I felt there were loose threads and the actions were not realistic. Sorry.
As the title of the series implies, these two ladies own a bakery and solve mysteries. One partner is an unwilling solver of mysteries, the other one (heavily pregnant in this eighth book) maneuvers her reluctant in going on a paranormal tour where the tour participants encounter a body that resembles a death done a century ago.
The author’s writing style is easy on the eyes, the characters reasonable interesting, but I admit that I really enjoyed the mystery and the solution was interesting.
I can’t say that I will go out of my way to read any more in the series but if one drops in my lap, I wouldn’t be averse to giving it a whirl.
3.5 Stars out of Five
I started this book in October. I was looking for a light, cozy mystery for Halloween and ran across this little gem. Its funny, sweet, and perfect for a Halloween read. That doesn't mean its not good at other times of the year; it would be just as cute any time you read it. I enjoyed the interplay between the characters, even when the fought. That part made it realistic, certainly. When the protagonist and her best friend were on the outs, I truly was sad for them.
While I did enjoy the story, I would have liked to see a little more back story on the main characters. With that said, I still highly recommend this book if you're looking for a cozy to read. It can brighten your day and make you smile.
This was another delightful cozy mystery by Stacey Alabaster. After a baker is killed in Belldale, Pippa discovers the same thing happened 100 years ago.
As Pippa is waiting to deliver her baby, Rachael tries to solve the killing.
After a few twists and turns Rachael is able to solve another crime in Belldale.
I recommend this book for anyone who likes stories about Halloween.
I was very disappointed with this book, particularly given the good reviews by others. It took forever to get things going - I mentioned to someone that the book was spinning its wheels trying to find traction. I think we were told 100 times in the first few pages how much the protagonist hated Halloween and how much her very pregnant friend loved it. There were simply too many implausible plot points for me to take this book seriously, or enjoy it. I don't like reading books where I'm calling the main character an idiot in my head - and to top it off, it was over when it finally - FINALLY - seemed that it was going somewhere.
Alas, it wasn't.
