This true story begins on a sunny morning in 2003, just before the Fourth of July, outside of Flint Michigan, when an 80-year-old grandmother has mysteriously disappeared from the face of the Earth. She was my mother.
Three days after she disappeared, the charred remains of her new car were identified, after being completely destroyed by an intentional fire; but she was nowhere to be found.
For the next three months, my family and I searched for her, and this book chronicles that search, and eventually her memorial service, funeral, and the trial of the person who stood accused of killing her. It is an odd and twisting tale about robbery, kidnapping, a lesbian love triangle, attempted murder, and actual murder.

I chose the title because it was sad. Your book is very well written. I could not put it down. I picked it up because I saw the words Flint Michigan. I too live in a Florida since 2000. My family still lives in Flint.. I am 68 years old. Every place you mentioned in the ebook, I knew where it was. I too worry about my family still living there. I pray for your family. I' m so sorry you all had to go through that. I think your MOM would be very proud of the way you all handled it. Ruthwohl@live.comProduct details

Missing Mom A True Crime True Family Story (Audible Audio Edition) Daniel L Murphy Kevin Pierce Creative Types Books Reviews
Fascinated by the book, especially since I live in area where this tragedy occurred
I attended the Book signing before I read the book. Danny puts every Detail in the book. He is a full fledged Author. I read it until I fell asleep, awakened , had to read more! It's so Emotional, Beautifully written Family Tragedy of His Mother's Murder....Where was i? In Hindsight , I wished I was more aware at The Time of The Crime....I regret not helping, via search party, or support. The name of the convicted, I will always remember, as well as the one that got away....
A very difficult story to read, and my heart went out to the entire family. I am friends with one of the family members, and this particular story caused me to break down and cry many times (once, right in the middle of my yoga class) because I couldn't bear to think of the pain that this person and their family had to endure. I don't believe this book was written to be a critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller. It was written to honor his mother, to cleanse his soul of his experience, and to commit to paper the history of their family. Who are any of us to say how a story should be told, how an author should convey his experience? I hope that by writing this book, Daniel Murphy was able to lay to rest the ghosts of that horrible experience and find some peace. There is never any way to go back and be the man he was before his mother was taken from him, but I hope this was a vehicle for him to continue to move forward and follow his own words........live your life every day, eat dessert, and I hope you are still a non-smoker! Your mother would be proud of all of you. You are an exceptional family who never deserved this.
Perhaps it's because this book was written in the first person...Perhaps it's all the minute details, but I just couldn't get into this book. At first I started reading it word for word. Then I started skimming. Then I started jumping. And finally I went to the end to see what happened. It was just way way too much detail for me and not enough about the investigation. It seemed like the same thing was being said again and again...more like a diary than a book. I am so sorry for the tragedy this family lived through! I just wish the story could have been told in a different way.
I find this book written with warmth and sincerity. At the same time it is also sweet, sad, horrifying and heart breaking. It is captivating. It touched me. And that is all that matters to me.
I am not qualified to be a book or a literary critic. I am just a consumer that buys books that I can connect with and that too is a pretty important aspect to consider. Danny M is not trying to write a masterpiece. It is his first book. I hope there will be more books to come.
A well-written narrative that kept you engaged from first to last page. The author did a great job of allowing the reader into the initimate world of a family dealing with a horrific tragedy. Every raw emotion was on display as they tried to navigate the complicated pathways of the legal system. The reader really related to this normal mid-west family living though a very abnormal situation. Everyone reading this book will love mom and miss her as much as her family does.
There is an editing issue with this book.
I thought this was a very well written true story about the disappearance, abduction, and murder of Dorothy Murphy, the elderly mother of the author. Life is fragile. We all dread those phone calls that alert us to some tragedy that has befallen a loved one. But the Murphy's had to endure the worst kind of nightmare after their 80 year old mother went missing. I won't go into further detail, as too many spoilers would ensue. What I liked most is that Daniel Murphy told the story in linear fashion, with details given in the order in which they occurred, and that he told the tale without resorting to self pity, over-dramatization, or exaggeration. Mr. Murphy's description of events and personal reactions was honest and upfront. Consequently I felt that I was experiencing the unfolding events along with the Murphy's. That was powerful. I was exhausted when the book ended. (By the way, I have both the Audible and versions, and the narration of the Audible version is excellent.) I had only two minor disappointments, not enough to knock a star off my review, but they deserve mention. First, Mr. Murphy referred to cigarette smoking far too often. I reached the point where I gagged every time he "stepped out for a smoke." TMI! Second, the word for word replay of the trial was a bit much and would have benefitted from editing. Less is more when it comes to holding a reader's attention. That said, I am so glad that I read Missing Mom. I hope the Murphy family continues to find peace and joy in life as the years pass. I know their mother would want that.
